Let the Good Times Roll

It seems some of our British allies really know how to enjoy a war:

Soldier arrested over Iraqi PoW 'torture' pictures

A soldier has been arrested over allegations of torture involving Iraqi prisoners of war.

Photograph developers are understood to have called the police because they were concerned about a number of pictures on a roll of film that had been handed in to their shop for developing.

According to The Sun, one of the photographs showed an Iraqi PoW gagged and bound, hanging in netting from a fork-lift truck and soldiers performing sex acts near captured Iraqis.

The matter is now in the hands of the military police.

Update 5/31: There's more on this story in the British tabloid The Sun, for those who have the stomach for it. I particularly liked the unofficial official reaction:

“Our biggest worry is that the reputation of 1 Battalion, the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers, will be besmirched.”

Sir John: May I take this opportunity of emphasizing that there is no cannibalism in the Royal Navy. Absolutely none, and when I say none, I mean there is a certain amount, more than we are prepared to admit, but all new ratings are warned that if they wake up in the morning and find toothmarks at all anywhere on their bodies, they're to tell me immediately so that I can immediately take every measure to hush the whole thing up. And finally, necrophilia is right out.

"soldiers performing sex acts near captured Iraqis. "

What on Earth does that mean? Where they letting the Iraqis watch them bugger themselves, or what?

soldiers performing sex acts near captured Iraqis.

Yeah, I wondered about that, too. Then I decided that I didn't to know. But I have a sinking feeling there might have been a camel or two involved . . .

poor, poor camel

I don't think any of this is new. After you "dehumanize" someone to turn them into a killing machine, you can hardly be surprised at what happens after the killing stops, can you?

Quiet ... Quiet ... Now wait a minute. I'm warning this blog about suggesting that we kill anyone in the Army. That is right ... OUT!

This was a perfectly nice comment thread about buggering camels and then suddenly someone started talking about dehumanized killing machines in the Army.

I'm warning you if it happens again, I shall come down on this thread like a ton of bricks... RIGHT! Carry on sergeant major!

Yours, etc.

Ahh performing sex acts in front the Iraqis POW's, must be a new interrogation technique. I'm just waiting when the troops start playing the audition songs from American Idol. Or even worse, have Phillyis Diller flash them!

I object to the insinuation that the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers is a haven for torture, abuse, and humiliation of POWs.

It is well known we have the problem relatively under control.

What do you think the American troops ate stuck in the middle of the desert? Argyls??!!
