Gingrich is back with fighting words
As if he had any other kind.
In the words of Jack Pitney, a former national GOP official and Capitol Hill aide: "He's trying to stir the pot and get back into the game. He wants to become a Washington 'wise man,' a big-picture guy that young conservatives will consult in the future. He wants to be Obi-Wan Kenobi for the next generation of Luke Skywalkers."
Actually, Luke isn't the Skywalker that comes to mind:
PALPATINE: And you, young Skywalker, we will watch your career with great interest.
But hey, even psychos can have friends:
The other day, Norman Ornstein, a Gingrich colleague at the American Enterprise Institute, rose to his defense. "Newt still has a following around the country, and he's still in demand," said Ornstein, a long-time Washington quote machine. "Why, his endorsement could help me sell thousands of copies of my next book."
Better hurry, Norm -- while Newt can still use his hands.

The variety of goons in American politics is surely an embaressment of "riches". Its a strange country, this US of A.
Billmon,
I think you have finaly cleared something up. There are (were) times when the newt could sound reasonable and intelligent. That is, in between the frequent bouts of raving lunacy. It is now apparent that this jedi had long ago left the path of light and begun to hear the call of his dark master.
Your photo makes it perfectly clear. No self respecting jedi would ever point a lightsaber at his own head.
Sandalwood,
Happy to see you're still posting after being assaulted by Mr. Scientist over at dKos. Maybe he too was feeling the power of "the Dark Side of the Force".
Ornstein defended the chickenhawk serial adulterer Gingrich on the basis that he still has a following? Jeez, Hitler still has a following in some quarters. Is Ornstein going to defend Hitler on the same ground?
Hi Gary. Yes, that was a most "interesting" encounter. ;-)
Can't we call RotoRooter and get the Gingrich turd flushed down once and for all?
Geez Billmon, you're making me comment all over the place past 2 days. [squints] You putting espresso in with the Chock Full O' Nuts again?
The topic of Newt's RPGs into the State Department came up a few weeks ago and I argued that this had someone else's fingerprints on them. I was inclined to think it was someone in Rumsfeld or Rice's closet but that it was too early to tell. Now I'm not so sure. Rumsfeld is way too busy (and over his head) at the moment to allow his war with Powell to go forward. And Ms. Rice is too busy with her own tapdancing over redacted intelligence reports to be making midnight calls to a has-been twit.
So, in my not so humble opinion, the question is who does Newt still owe or who's sh*t list is Powell on? One thing's for sure, this ain't about selling books.
