We haven't been able to find any weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, so apparently we're going to send them one of our own:
DeLay Is to Carry Dissenting Message on a Mideast Tour
Tom DeLay, the House majority leader, never tires of reminding people that he is just a former pest exterminator from Sugar Land, Tex. But beginning this weekend, he will travel to the world's most complex and troubled region, meet with prime ministers, speak to a foreign parliament and, by his presence, remind the Bush administration to pay heed to its right flank as it seeks to make peace. As he travels next week through Israel, Jordan and Iraq, he will take with him a message of grave doubt that the Middle East is ready for a Palestinian state, as called for in the current peace plan, known as the road map, backed by the administration and Europe.
The fact that this deranged yahoo is going to be running around loose in the Middle East, pretending to represent the world's only superpower, is just one more example of how fucking scary this country has become.
Well maybe a house or a pyramid or something will fall on him.
Yeah. Makes me feel all patriotic and tingly thinking about it.
"Well maybe a house or a pyramid or something will fall on him."
Or at the least a camel will spit at him, if he gets beyond Tel Aviv and Jerusalem. Surely even Delay would want to sightsee a little, right?
The Dems really need to present this guy as the face of the Repug Congress. I can't imagine he would play well in too many places. A vote for your Repug legislator is a vote to empower the Exterminator from Sugarland. He may head the list of a truly large group of repulsive folks.
Is hetravelling with Richard Perle? That fucker goes all over pretending to represent our views with his nutbaggery.
Any chance he might want to show off his driving skills in Iraq on a Hummer/HUMMV? (Solo, of course...)
Let's all move to Beaumont and vote his @ss out of office. Er... you first.
Actually, with the new map, we could probably hang in scenic San Marcos and still be in his district.
This is unreal. We can't really be serious, sending this guy over there. I wonder if he's going to hand out copies of the Bible while he's at it?
Please tell me I'm in the twilight zone or something.
Rove , appealing to Delay's vanity, convinced him to go "tour the Middle East, hobnob, spread the word of Jesus."
Rove is offing him.
Calling Tom DeLay a "deranged yahoo" does a disservice to deranged yahoos everywhere. Deranged yahoos can actually be a lot of fun to hang out with. If you're going to call DeLay a name, it might be better to go with something from the ----head family.
The fact that this deranged yahoo is going to be running around loose in the Middle East . . . means he ought to fit right in.
Then again, Demetrios has a good point. Let's not impugn the relative sanity of run-of-the-mill yahoos by grouping them with the likes of DeLay.
Actually, perhaps the presence of DeLay will put the Fear of God into the militant Arabs & Jews-- scare them straight at the thought of such a demented idealogue wielding so much of our Superpower.
Re: Let's all move to Beaumont and vote his @ss out of office. Er... you first.
Beaumont's rep is Nick Lampson, a Democrat. Beaumont is a very blue collar-union city. Sugarland is a white only suburb on the other side of Houston. The local paper pleaded with the citizens of Sugarland to oust the evil b*stard. One of his more progressive tactics while in DC was to hold up Federal Highway funds in an attempt to kill the light rail plan in Houston. Houstons Dems got around him and built it anyway. Light Rail is a tool of the devil you know. Light trucks fit in with the devine plan,... the apocalypse.
I think his true motive is to scout out The West Bank. He is working on his own map. One that puts it in his Congressional District.
So many thoughts going on in my head after reading this article, but one comment Delay made just really struck me.
"If the experiment going on in Iraq comes off, it will have a huge, huge impact in the Arab world, showing people who want freedom and self-government and education that they can have it."
Experiment! I am sure the troops and the Iraqi's will be glad to hear that they are the "rats" in Mr. "I am the federal government" Delay's experiment. Let's just hope not too many more of them get exterminated or injured.
Also what happens if this experiment going on in Iraq doesn't come off Mr. Delay, then what? Do you have an exit strategy for this experiment?
Lastly with people like Mr. Delay running our country, don't you all feel safer now? And they say the dems are weak on national security.
He's our country's version of someone who doesn't want peace in Isreal/Palistine.
i haven't been able to decide yet. is delay supposed to be bad cop to bush's good cop or are they truly at odds?
granted, i think delay pulling bush over further right is a net good thing, as it ever yet further takes away the compassionate conservatism mask and shows bush for what he really is: an empty suit filled by whoever has the most power.
The great failure of 2002 by the Democratic party was not having every House member running against Delay instead of their opponent. He controls almost all of congress with fear, intimidation and the assurance of vengeance to anyone who does not vote HIS way. Hastert is just a figurehead because Delay learned all too well what happens to a high profile speaker with radical right views (Gingrich). That is why you never see Delay on Meet the Pres or anyone of the whore news shows. He is the single most powerful man in American government and the Democrats would be doing themselves a service by outing him whenever and wherever they can.
Didn't David Bonior get called all sorts of names, like traitor, when he went abroad and objected to the Administration's foreign policy?
Where are the wingnuts now? This guy is going to Israel and questioning the Administration's foreign policy, while traveling as a representative of the American government.
Isn't that what Bonior did?
This is great! Now the whole world will finally realize that christianity is the only religion, god's religion! Thanks to Delay we can all rest comfortably knowing that Bush's "I am God" plan will be played out and we can start taking out other countries so we can "liberate" them too.
I've said it once and I stand by it, if this religion is the real religion, then I am so glad to be going to hell!
Submitted for your consideration:
DeLay represents the "real" American foreign policy that most members of the administration are too polite to speak in front of Palestinian diplomats or national news organizations.
We can not get rid of these fools, because they represent almost 50% of the American public. There is an endless array of idiots waiting- and fervently contending- to replace this fool if something does happen to him. This is the problem progressives face: a large segment of the population would rather live the life of the landed aristocracy of the old South before the the Civil War.
It doesn't matter that the country couldn't economically support a few thousand living that lifestyle even then, much less a hundred million or more now. But if you want an empire, the greed of a hundred million or more is exactly what you need to fuel the violence. The only problem is that this mass of people is emotionally detached from the violence they cause for the rest of humanity.
We can thank the profit-driven news media for that.
After all, no one wants to see themselves in an unflattering light- even if their needs are consuming the world...
"Only Christianity offers a way to understand that physical and moral border. Only Christianity offers a comprehensive worldview that covers all areas of life and thought, every aspect of creation. Only Christianity offers a way to live in response to the realities that we find in this world -- only Christianity."
Someone needs to give that man a copy of The Jesus Mysteries for Christmas this year.
Maybe I will.
Isn't the right that's been whining about politics ending at the water's edge?
Well, AFAIC, this is good thing. It will further parade what a complete and utter waste the GOP has become.
How a conservative can continue to support this party is beyond me.
...As an evangelical Christian, he is the most prominent member in Washington of the Christian Zionist movement, a formidable bloc of conservative Republicans whose support for Israel is based on biblical interpretations, sometimes putting them to the right of Israeli government...
Anybody up for some temple rebuilding, red-heifer sacrificing, and end-times rejoicing?
Re: We can not get rid of these fools, because they represent almost 50% of the American public.
I honestly don't believe this. I think it represents 15 % of the American public. Then you have about 30 % on the left and about 30% in the middle. So that leaves you with a very maliable and ignorant 25 % of the population doing whatever they are lead to believe is right by the likes of Rush, Fox news etc. Not by what would best serve their interests. These fools are motivated to vote. The free thinking masses are too wrapped up in themselves to do anything. The challange lies in getting the sane people to the polls. In my honest opinion anyway.
Re: We can not get rid of these fools, because they represent almost 50% of the American public.
I honestly don't believe this. I think it represents 15 % of the American public.
According to the latest survey by the Pew Research Center:
Fully 44% of Americans believe that God gave the land that is now Israel to the Jewish people while a substantial minority (36%) thinks that "the state of Israel is a fulfillment of the biblical prophesy about the second coming of Jesus."
Also:
Fully 44% now believe that Islam is more likely than other religions "to encourage violence among its believers." As recently as March 2002, just 25% expressed this view.
Also:
The public at large is quite comfortable with President Bush's evocation of faith and what many perceive as his reliance on religious beliefs in making policy decisions. A 62% majority thinks Bush strikes the right balance in how much he mentions his religious faith, and nearly as many (58%) believe the president's reliance on religion in policymaking is appropriate.
Elmer Gantry, call your office.
Rather than reel Mr DeLay in, the administration ought to be thanking him. Delay's visit will further endear him to apocalyptic elements in his party -- despite the apparent loss in the Israel debate they still have a voice and a representative in the GOP. Delay's visit helps endear Mr Bush to everyone left of the armageddonists, in terms of policy toward Israel, by comparison. And the move highlights Mr Bush's willingness to alienate a key constituency in pursuit of a greater good -- he really is a 'uniter not a divider'!
Even those with a constitutional mistrust of the administration can spot the contrast between DeLay and Bush here, and though many of us don't feel comfortable pulling for the President and the Roadmap, 'support' him we must.

I've been thinking this for a while. The country is essentially fighting the Civil War all over again. This time the south is winning. I have relatives born and raised in NC and let me tell you they are COMPLETELY brain-washed.

What!?!?!
Last time I checked the Bush family tree had roots in the North East. Maybe your relatives are just stupid.

no, not a civil war of the north and south, more like the right and left...and the right is killing our ass!
it just so happens that more people in the south are religious and tend to bow before the bush-monkey's ignorant bible references, but trust me i know plenty of people down south who hate bushco and i know plenty up north who support him. is it really possible for one man to cause so much hatred in the entire world? son of god my ass, i'm starting to see the horns....
"...and the right is killing our ass!" The heirs to the uneducated, racist and fierce creeps that rose up and we're initially winning the last Civil War. Like then, we need some really mean SOBs to put them down - calling the heirs to Sherman and Grant.
One would think that there must be some pictures around on someone as dirty and sloppy as Delay.
Well there must be incriminating pictures from his Texas Congressman days when he was THE party guy, and he whores out his daughter to lobbyists at hot tub parties, there's probably video of that.
I hope he gives that speech he gave in Texas last year! The one where he said
"Only Christianity offers a way to understand that physical and moral border. Only Christianity offers a comprehensive worldview that covers all areas of life and thought, every aspect of creation. Only Christianity offers a way to live in response to the realities that we find in this world -- only Christianity."
That should go over great!
